The Marshall boys golf team closed out its season on Wednesday with a 13th-place finish at the IHSA Boys Golf Regional at Quail Creek Country Club and Resort.
The Lions finished with 392 total team strokes, finishing behind Wayne City with 379. Teutopolis captured the regional championship with 308 strokes, followed by Mt. Carmel at 316 and Casey-Westfield at 330, with the top three teams advancing to Sectional play.
Mason Ellington led the Lions with a low score of 89 strokes, finishing 34th out of more than 80 golfers.
Teammate Jackson Boyer followed with 99 strokes, while junior Owen Griguhn finished with 100. Jack Wellum finished with a 104, and Senior Wesley Burress rounded out the Lion’s score with a 107. Junior Caden O’Rourke also competed for Marshall, shooting a 111.
The boys closed out a great season with an opportunity to compete against some of the area’s top Class 1A programs, providing valuable postseason experience for a relatively younger roster.
With Ellington, Boyer, Griguhn, and Jack Wellum all returning next year along with several new freshman, the squad will look to build on this performance as the program moves forward.
