On Tuesday, the Marshall golf team traveled to Paris to take on the Tigers, Casey-Westfield Warriors, and OPH. The meet took place at Eagle Ridge golf course, a 9-hole course known for its hilly terrain. The weather conditions were mostly sunny with little cloud cover, making it a great day for a golf meet.
On the boys side, senior Wesley Burress led the way for the Lions, with an impressive score of 46, placing 6th overall. Sophomore Mason Ellington and Wyatt Hopkins also had solid outings, where they both tied with a score of 49, both of them ended up sharing 10th place for the day. Freshman Jackson Boyer placed 12th, earning an overall score of 50 strokes. Jack Wellum finished with a score of 57, placing 21st. Owen Griguhn Placed 23rd for the boys with 65 strokes.
While Casey-Westfield ultimately took the victory, finishing with a score of 162, it was a particularly close game against Paris, Marshall and OPH. Each of the three teams finished with only two strokes between the other. Paris finished with 192 strokes, Marshall finished with 194, and OPH finished last with 196 strokes.
On the girls side Peyton Edwards ended the game first for Marshall, finishing with a score of 60. Ellie Delp ended with 63.
Overall, both the boys and girls teams had a solid outing at Paris.
On Wednesday, the Lions hosted Villa Grove, Oakland, and Broadlands Heritage in home territory. There would be massive success on the boys side, with the group finishing with a score of 170, beating out the second place finisher Villa Grove by a whopping 9 strokes! Oakland finished 3rd with 188 strokes, and Broadland Heritage would finish 4th with 228 strokes.
Wesley Burress was the meet medalist with a low score of 37. Wyatt Hopkins was 2nd with a score of 42, beating out a pack of talented Villa Grove and Oakland golfers. Sophomore Mason Ellington finished 6th with a score of 45, and freshman Jackson Boyer placed 7th with a score of 46. Some very good numbers for Marshall.
Caden O’Rourke finished the day with a score of 50 to place 13th, and Jack Wellum finished the day with 51 strokes and 18th place.
The girls also had another solid outing, where they ended up finishing 2nd overall with 231 strokes. Peyton Edwards led Marshall with 50 strokes to take 5th overall, and Senior Ellie Delp finished with a score of 50 to finish in 7th place.
Emmalyn Delp finished with 60 strokes placing 9th, Evangeline Hutson had 60 strokes finishing 10th, and Saige Toney finished with 71 strokes to finish 11th.
The Lions will travel to Oblong on September 1st to take on the Panthers.
