On Wednesday, January 28th, the Marshall High School boys basketball team faced off against Lawrenceville High School in the LIC Tournament semifinal round hosted by Robinson High School.  Marshall came into the game with a record of 8-10, while Lawrenceville came in with a record of 19-1.

With the Lions trailing by seven at the half with the score 24-17, Lawrenceville went on two big runs in the second half to break the game wide open.  At the end of three, Lawrenceville had a 19-point lead with the score 43-24, then they coasted to the win.  Marshall had no answer for the state’s #1 team (1A) as they lost by the score of 63-37 to move to 8-11 on the season.  The Lions did not compete anywhere near the same level they had in their opening game of the tournament against Richland County.  They were very sluggish on both ends of the floor as Lawrenceville turned steals into fast break points and had easy drives past the Marshall defense to score at the rim.

Bryce Gruguhn and Tucker Osborn had 14 and 12 points, respectively, to lead the Lions in scoring.  Liam Keim scored 4 points, and Payton McGuire and Zach Jones each had 2.  Garrett Pough finished the game with 1 point.

Marshall’s next game is this Friday night when the Lions take on Mount Carmel for third place in the conference tournament at 6:30 PM inside Robinson High School’s gym.
