I grew up in Indianapolis and graduated from Ben Davis High School in 1998. I attended Indiana State University and have my BA in Elementary Education with a Middle School Language Arts Endorsement. I taught 4th and 5th grade at Crestwood Elementary in Paris right after college. I then moved back to Indy to teach at Craig Middle School in Lawrence Township. I spent the next five years moving between 6th and 8th grade language arts classes. I love teaching all levels...I just can't decide which is my favorite!

My husband, Michael Smitley, grew up in Marshall. After we had our first child, we decided to move back here to raise our family. I spent the next nine years home with Emma, Luke, and Anna. Once all of our kids were in school, I was ready to return to the classroom. It turns out, I really only like being home when the kids are. I just don't enjoy cooking and cleaning all day as much as I do snuggling and playing with my kids. Ha!

I can't wait to spend the year with your children. I love watching them learn new things and grow into big people with big dreams. It's going to be a great year!
