On Wednesday, the Lady Cubs traveled to Martinsville, Illinois to take on the Bluestreaks. Going into the game, Marshall was in a bit of a slump; losing their last four. Martinsville had come into the game with a 1-8 record, losing their last five games.
Marshall would go on to win the game 15-6 after a great start in the first and massive surges in the 3rd and 4th.
This was a pivotal game for Marshall, as a win would boost morale and end their season slump.
The Cubs got out to a sizable lead in the 1st, with Parker Morey scoring after Kali Kerr singled on a line drive; Kali Kerr would score after two singles, a walk, and a steal at 2nd. Kaydance Duzan scored after a walk and three singles, and Riley Flaurr and Caselyn Smallwood would score after wild pitches. Going up 5-0, a dominant start in the first.
The Lady Cubs would score 4 runs in the 3rd, and 3 runs in the 4th. A combination of several pitching errors from Martinsville and several good hits from Marshall had allowed this massive run over the two innings.
Parker Morey earned the win for the Lady Cubs. The pitcher allowed five hits and six runs over three innings, striking out four and walking three. Riley Flaurr pitched two and two-thirds of an inning scoreless ball for Marshall Jr High Cubs 2026 in relief. The reliever allowed one hit, striking out four and walking one.
Marshall piled up eight hits in the game. Caselyn Smallwood and Kali Kerr each collected three hits for the Cubs. Morey, Dashiell, Smallwood, Kerr, and Duzan each drove in one run. Harper Downey led Marshall with four walks. Overall, the team had a strong eye at the plate, piling up 15 walks for the game. Caselyn and Kali each stole multiple bases. Overall, the team ran wild on the base paths, tallying six stolen bases for the game.
Marshall went up to 5-8 on the season after the win, building momentum and climbing out of a four-game slump.
The Lady Cubs will travel to Charleston to take on the Trojans for their next game on Friday, Sept 4th.
