On Saturday, the junior high boys’ and girls’ xc teams traveled to Paris, Illinois to compete on the Doc Acklin course, with plenty of difficult terrain but few hills; the junior high team competed on the 2-mile long version of the course. The boys team won the race, with all five starters finishing within the top 15, combining for a low score of just 35 points; crushing second-place finisher Chrisman Scottland by 37 points.

Griffin Thompson once again led the way for the Lions, where he finished with a 12:17 time. Teammate Chase Paulson finished right behind Thompson with a 12:22.93 time for the duo to place 3rd and 4th for the day. The rest of the team also had several strong performances, with Grayson Edwards placing 9th overall with a 12:55.13 time; Cooper Morey rounded out Marshal’s starters for the meet, where he finished 10th with a 13:07.92 time; Emmett Maurer finished 12th to run a 13:23.54 time, and Sam Wernz finished 29th; where he ran a 15:04.49 time.

Some other notable runners include Owen Ockerman, who ran a 15:12.42 time; Delter Welsgerber, who finished with a 15:32.11 time; Isaiah York, who finished with a 15:46.64 time; and Lucas Clark, who finished with a 16:50.27 time.

The Lady Cubs also did very well, the girls team placed 3rd overall; scoring 65 points. Brynna Farrell, who is the top runner for the girls’ team, ended up finishing 2nd overall for the race where she finished with a 14:27.23 time. 

Caroline Nave finished second for Marshall, finishing with a 16:31.06 time to place 11th; Carrigan Crumrin finished 21st with a 17:38.12 time, Molly Cooper finished 24th; running a 19:10.52 time, and Charlotte Reed finished 44th for the Lady Cubs; running a solid 23:54.32 time to round out the team.

Both teams performed extremely well on an early and hot summer day. 

The girls’ and boys' teams will travel to Chrisman, Illinois on Friday, September 4th; where they will participate in the Cow Chip Classic.
