This Tuesday, the Cubs stayed at home to face off against Robinson Nuttall. Marshall came into the game with a 3-0 record after an 11-0 blowout win last week against Paris Crestwood. They have been on fire this season and they looked to keep that up against Robinson.
The Raiders also came into this game undefeated as well, with them jumping up to a 4-0 record after a win against Palestine-Hutsonville last Friday, where they would win 20-0 over the course of just three innings.
With both teams coming into the game with an undefeated record, a win for Marshall would be a statement, bolstering their case of being one of the best teams in the Central-Illinois area.
Robinson jumped out of the gate in the 1st, scoring one run after a couple walks and a double from Asher Hault. Colby Claypool started in the first for the Cubs, striking out two initial batters before allowing a couple walks and a double before securing another strikeout to get the ball.
In the 2nd the Cubs practically blew the game out of the water, scoring six straight runs. The biggest blow in the inning was a triple by Cooper Bayes that drove in 2. August Schneider scored after two doubles and Easton Huffington scored after a walk and a triple off first base. Jayse Gard, Brocton Philips, and Brody Pugh each collected one run in the inning.
Bayes, Schneider, Claypool, and Pugh each collected one hit for the Cubs. While Bayes and Claypool each drove in two runs, with both being responsible for 4 of the 6 runs scored in the 2nd.
Marshall would add on to their lead in the bottom of the 3rd after Sabastian Scott drew a walk, scoring one run, while Sam Welsh would eventually score off a double and stealing 3rd and 4th base to score another run for Marshall, and Cooper Morey was awarded two walks and scored off a steal at 3rd base and a single.
In the 5th, Cason Furlong secured the game for the Cubs, striking out two batters and grounding out one to end the game and secure the win for the lions. Beating Robinson 9-2.
The Cubs made a statement with this win, not only taking down a top tier team in the area, but doing so in a dominating game resulting in a blowout win for Marshall.
The Cubs will take on the Pirates of Cumberland in their next game.
